GDI's work flows from deeply-held core values and is shaped by its vision and mission. GDI's philosophy of ministry is based on a commitment to employ and regularly adjust its programs in response to God's leading and the changing needs of the individuals, organizations, and cultures GDI serves.

GDI's work is divided into two main categories, the on site component and the translocal component. Translocal work includes consulting, oganizational oversight and other services. On site work includes retreats, conferences, the Greenhouse Project, and other programs.
